A classic mistake lots of people make is thinking they need to be reachable all the time. So they keep getting interrupted by emails and phone calls, taking away their attention from the workload in front of them. That's a mistake. So how can you organize your day better ?
- At the start of your day, read your email.
- Make notes of things that need immediate attention, forming a to do list.
- After having read your email, take a maximum of 20-30 minutes to answer emails with simple questions.
- This will proove a huge timesaver !
- Get yourself a cup of your favorite brew and go over the list you've compiled.
- Go over priorities and reorder if necessary.
- Check you to do list for phone calls to be made.
- Try and make all waiting calls quickly.
- Ignore incoming emails.
- You can create more peace in your mind when you stick to reading email at fixed times. So read your email only three times a day. A lot of people have the impression that incoming email is urgent, while often it is not.
- Last but certainly not least - Don't answer your phone all the time.
- In fact, shut it off when you have a task at hand that needs you attention. You can check for voicemail when you read your email later.
