Integration of personal technology in business networks
Filed in archive Technology on June 26, 2007
In the E-Commerce Times, Andre Burger explains on how wireless networks and techniques integrate into common business environments rapidly. This makes me think about something the integration of *personal* (or semi-personal) communication devices in business environments. Usually, when you work in an office environment, you will be provided with the tools needed to do your job. In reality, you often get something standard that hans not been thought about enough to enable you to work efficiently.
So what happens ? You bring your own tools. Just like the special wrench you bring to work at the costruction site. And what about freelance consultant ? I might be the best example. I work as a freelance consultant, therefore I use my own tools. One of those is, a blackberry. I rely so much on email that the thing buzzes me all day long, and I am considering including the mail used by my current biggest customer to be able to act faster after mail has arrived.
The downside is, in a way, that business mails are now 'copied' to an external devices beyond the company's control. The advantage is that I can be reached better, later and faster in more ways, providing better service to my customer. I guess this will always be a dilemma.
What do you think ? Your opinion is welcome in the comments.
