How to always be on time in only four steps

Filed in archive Consultancy by S.M. Schrama on March 13, 2007

When running your own business, it is often considered impolite to be late for an appointment. Personally I hate being late - I prefer getting somewhere early so you can rest for 5 minutes, and you have the timelinks to wash your hands and prepare for the meeting you came for.

Bt with today's traffic, phones ringing constantly and people that won't let you go, how can you get there in time ?! Here's a couple of tips :
  • First of all, calculate time plus time.
  • If you know it will take you an hour to drive to your destination, add 15 minutes to search the location and possibly a parking spot (certainly in Europe) plus an additional 10 minutes for a leg stretch and to wash your hands. Total of 25 minutes extra. It seems like a lot, but you'll see you need it.
  • You often simply don't have the time to get everything done.
  • I am sorry, but that's nonsense. This means you're not organized.
  • Prepare for the meeting you're off to before you leave, not while driving. If you prepare while driving, chances on having an accident or being stopped by the police are big. If that happens, you will be late.
  • And lastly, make sure you know the route to take.
  • Hot Tip : Get a navigation unit. You will be able to concentrate on traffic instead of road signs and get there calm and relaxed. You can use your navigation device to calculate the route before you leave, so you'll know how much time it will take.

The keyword is preparation. It will make you look professional and well organized.
